Heredó el oficio de su padre, insigne orfebre sevillano que abrió su taller en la década de los cuarenta del pasado siglo. Sus recuerdos de infancia están estrechamente ligados al trabajo con los metales nobles. Hoy, Juan José Marmolejo es uno de los máximos exponentes de la orfebrería en España. Sus trabajos embellecen los pasos de la Semana Santa hispalense. Desde hace algún tiempo, se ha especializado también en la orfebrería arqueológica. Su trabajo más notable en este campo: la reproducción de las coronas de los reyes visigodos. De su taller salió una reproducción del Tesoro de El Carambolo que se expone en el Museo Arqueológico Nacional.
