En la década de los 80, José Madero (Torredonjimeno, Jaén) tenía que elegir un rumbo: estudiar una carrera o continuar con el negocio familiar. Se quedó en la imprenta que su abuelo había adquirido en los años 50 y que llevaba en marcha desde 1898 con el nombre de Gráficas La Paz. Ha seguido la tradición familiar pero de mano de la innovación y se ha convertido en la segunda empresa, por facturación, de su sector en Andalucía y la primera en la vanguardia tecnológica. Imprime más de 1.000 libros al año en 30 idiomas diferentes. En 2017 ha cerrado un acuerdo con la empresa Lantia Publishing para entrar en el mercado anglosajón a través de la autoedición de libros.
