Es madrileña, pero vive a caballo entre Madrid y Almería. Se enamoró de este rincón del sur de España con tan solo 6 años de edad cuando acudió a la finca de su tío. Hoy en día María José Cruz es gerente de la empresa Cosensa, que cuenta en Almería con la finca El Maltés. Una extensión de 800 hectáreas en las que se encuentra la mayor plantación de aloe vera de Andalucía. Produce más de 100.000 plantas anuales en 10 hectáreas de cultivo que se exportan principalmente a Alemania y Eslovenia. De momento se centran en la venta de plantas y hojas, pero muy pronto esperan poder dar un paso más y extraer ellos mismos el gel del aloe.
