Cordobés de nacimiento, tierra en la que estudió Ciencias Químicas, su tesis doctoral le llevó a Almería por primera vez. Desde entonces su relación con esta tierra ha sido constante. Logró hace 15 años una plaza de científico titular en la Estación Experimental de Zonas Áridas, de la que es director desde hace un año. Un centro dependiente del CSIC en el que se realizan investigaciones sobre terrenos semiáridos con el objetivo de evitar su desertificación. Una labor que tiene como fin último aportar herramientas a la sociedad para poder combatir el cambio climático en estas zonas que ocupan un 30 por ciento del planeta.
