Cuando era niño devoraba libros de Astronomía y miraba al cielo contemplando eclipses lunares. Hoy en día, el gaditano José María Madiedo, es uno de los astrofísicos más importantes de España, siendo el responsable del proyecto MIDAS, con el que se ha registrado el destello de impacto contra la Luna más grande y largo hasta la fecha. Profesor de la Universidad de Huelva, compagina su labor de docente con la de investigador. También es responsable del proyecto SMART, con el que registra los impactos de meteoros y meteoritos que se producen contra la Tierra. Su labor permite analizar el material interplanetario con el fin de arrojar luz sobre la formación del Sistema Solar.
