A sus más de 80 años sigue construyendo instrumentos. El maestro artesano José Ángel Chacón nació en Córdoba, pero pronto se trasladó a Málaga. Como maestro lutier abrió su primer taller en Italia. En 1983 regresó a España. En 1993 el Ministerio de Cultura le concedió la Medalla de Plata al Mérito de las Bellas Artes. Desde 2011 posee la Carta de Maestro Artesano que otorga la Junta de Andalucía. Su hijo continúa con la profesión y es el encargado de dirigir Chacón Luthiers, la escuela de lutería que tienen en Málaga.
