Investigadores del Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Sevilla, dependiente del CSIC, y del Centro Andaluz de Biomedicina y Biotecnología, Bionand, han creado un nuevo material que supone una novedad mundial en el ámbito de la protección solar. Se trata de una nanoestructura flexible y con la apariencia de una fina capa transparente que bloquea un espectro muy concreto de los rayos ultravioleta, los más dañinos y responsables el cáncer de piel. Las características de este material hacen posible un amplio abanico de aplicaciones desde techados saludables a su utilización en el ámbito médico para lunares, cicatrices o heridas. El paso de las radiaciones solares beneficiosas y el bloqueo de los rayos dañinos son permanentes, no pierde eficacia con el tiempo como las cremas convencionales.
