Biofilm Transformers es un proyecto de estudiantes de la Universidad Pablo de Olavide, en Sevilla. Han demostrado la eficacia de cierta bacteria que modifican genéticamente con el fin de transformar el glicerol del biodiésel, sustancia contaminante, en propionato, usado en la industria farmacéutica y cosmética. Con esta idea han conseguido una medalla de oro en IGEM 2016, el certamen internacional más relevante del mundo en Biología Sintética, que reúne cada año en Boston a estudiantes de todo el mundo.
